Adaptation and Genotype x Environment Interaction of Flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) Genotypes in South Central Chile Chilean J. Agric. Res.

Flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) is imported into Chile mostly for bread making and feed. Identification of genotypes best adapted for seed production in South Central Chile would facilitate producer’s decision. The objective of this study was to determine the adaptation and genotype x environment interaction of 16 flaxseed genotypes (including 10 from North American and six from Argentine sources) grown at 11 environments (defined as location-year) in Chile from 2003 to 2007. Genotype seed yield was above 5700 kg ha-1 for some environments indicating a high yield potential. Rice is a tropical plant, so cold temperature may be detrimental to its development, depending on the genotype and environmental conditions. Degree of lipid unsaturation has been related to cold tolerance due to its effect on membrane stability. So, the aim of this study was to characterize the fatty acid composition and its alterations due to cold temperature in rice genotypes of diversified origin. Forty-four rice genotypes at the V4 stage were submitted to two temperature conditions: 10°C and 28°C for two days and after this they had their leaves collected for lipid extraction and quantification. ABSTRACT This investigation was carried out to determine the effect of Essential Fatty Acids proportion (EFAs [n-6, n-3]) in feed through the mixture of soy, olive, canola or chia oil on EFA profile in eggs as well as productive and reproductive performance of Japanese quail. We used 120 quail from 7 to 22 weeks of age, in 15 cages in groups of 6 females and 2 males assigned according to the completely randomized design to 3 treatments with 5 replicates. Soybean oil contains around 60 % of polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are responsible for the low oxidative stability of soy-derived products. Soybean lines with low linolenic acid content can be obtained by genetic manipulation; however, a high proportion of the variation in fatty acids content is due to environmental factors. The relationship of the fatty acid composition of the three developmental stages (fingerling, juvenile and adult) of Heterobranchus longifilis (Pisces: Clariidae) and Chrysichthys nigrodigitatus (Pisces: Bagridae) have been evaluated by gas liquid chromatography (Glc) on polyethylene glycol-2-nitroterephthalic ester (PEGNTE). Results indicated that adults of these fishes, accumulated linolenic acid (C18:3w3) above dietary levels atthe fingerling stage which was remarkably depleted in the adult fishes. ABSTRACT The milk and meat from animals with a pasture-based diet have higher proportions of CLA and C18:3 and lower omega-6:omega-3 ratios than products from animals with diets based on corn silage and concentrate. between pro-inflammatory PUFA cis-linoleic (w6) and acachidonic (w6), versus the less inflammatory PUFA alpha-linolenic (w3), gamma-linolenic (w6), eicosapentaenoic (w3) and docosaeicosahenoic(w3) determines the fami1y of leukotrienes, prostaglandins and thromboxanes produced in the tissues, resulting in more or less inflammation (vasodilatation, aggregation, painful, etc.).
